from L to R: Layla June doing what we do best, my morning look, that sweet nectar of life known as coffee
Oh, mornings. That beautiful, peaceful, bright part of the day. Where everyone is hitting snooze and cursing themselves for staying up so late. Jokes aside, morning is my absolute favorite time of day - but I miss it almost daily. Since I don't do the 9 to 5 routine (and praise be that I don't, you do not want that version of me out in the world), I don't generally set an alarm or force myself to get up when I need rest.
This week, I'm giving myself a challenge to wake up a few hours earlier than I normally do. I LOVE morning so much, and always feel way better about myself and my day when I wake up early. So often we avoid doing the things that make us feel good and be even greater humans than we already are. Let's stop doing that, okay?
I'm calling this The RISE Challenge because I want to RISE up to a higher level. I want to push myself to see how much I can accomplish with extra hours, give myself the gift of more time, conduct a little experiment with myself. I want to call myself out on the things I could be doing for my life, but am currently avoiding.

Starting tomorrow, May 11, I'm setting an alarm for 8am. Now for most of you, and definitely all parents, you'll have been up for hours by then. That's okay, we don't compare around these parts. I'll try to wake up every day this week at 8am. Start my day with my traditional meditation, prayer, puppy snuggle session, and then take the dogs out, and get to the gym, so I can be ready to start working by 11. Which is normally when I'm turning on the Keurig for coffee, and still haven't put my contacts in. If I don't succeed, that's okay. Maybe setting an alarm for 8 means I'll be out of bed by 930. Maybe it means I'll do great for a few days before surrendering to my delicious bed. Maybe it means I'll love it! As with everything, when we decide it's an experiment instead of a rule, it's way more fun. Be gentle with yourself when creating change. It's not overnight. It's not a quick fix. It's creating and maintaining new habits that are meant to encourage your best self to shine.
So, friends, let's RISE and let's shine.
If you're in, let me know on Instagram or in the comments below! What time will you set your alarm for? What will you use the extra time for? I'm with you. Let's go!
